Lab

The home lab is a proving ground. It is where I break the things I cannot break at work: networks, hypervisors, firmware, other people’s protocols. A good deal of what later proved useful in production first ran here.

01

Smart home and IoT

Home Assistant at the centre of everything: lighting, sensors, relays, intercom, cameras. My own ESP32 and ESP8266 devices on ESPHome, and my own integrations wherever none exist.

  • Home Assistant
  • ESPHome
  • ESP32 / ESP8266
  • MQTT
  • Zigbee

02

Networking

Routing and split traffic, VPNs and tunnels, OpenWrt and Keenetic, LTE as a fallback link.

  • OpenWrt
  • Keenetic
  • VPN
  • split routing
  • Wi-Fi
  • LTE

03

Infrastructure

Proxmox with VMs and containers, Docker Compose, reverse proxies, my own VPS with nginx and certificates. Backups, monitoring, and being my own on-call.

  • Proxmox
  • Docker
  • nginx
  • Linux
  • WSL
  • Let’s Encrypt

04

LLM infrastructure

My own layer over the models: OpenAI-compatible endpoints, request routing through LiteLLM, agent tooling, and MCP servers of my own against live catalogues and APIs.

  • LiteLLM
  • MCP
  • OpenAI-compatible API
  • agent tooling

05

Hardware and CAD

Electronics diagnostics and soldering, 3D printing on Bambu Lab, designing enclosures and parts in Autodesk Inventor. Usually for my own ESP devices, which nobody makes enclosures for.
